When a longtime client, a developer, acquired a raw space on the top floor of a landmark building in Chicago, he commissioned Ruth and dSPace Studio to transform the empty shell into a home for himself and his daughter. The building was designed by South Africa-based Lucien Le Grange Architects & Urban Planners, so Ruth and the architects developed a simple yet sophisticated plan to honor the dramatic space and the extraordinary views of Lake Michigan and downtown Chicago. The soft white walls, natural steel shelving built into the walls and herringbone hardwood floors offer a serene backdrop for the client's collection of original art, favorite family heirlooms—including a beloved old piano—and iconic modern furniture.
