Girard ave house

Minneapolis

Ruth was thrilled to work with Christopher Strom Architects and a creative, outdoorsy father-daughter duo on this artful modern home. Signature design elements include the living room’s glass-walled cacti corner for the father’s beloved collection and a guitar wall ingeniously composed to display the instruments he plays in a local band. Inspired by a black kitchen the daughter discovered, Ruth specified Fenix, a carbon-neutral, durable and elegant cabinet material with a sleek, matte finish. The scullery’s grey-and-black graphic tile complements the kitchen with a geometric pattern. Turquoise tile, inspired by a photo the client saved from a French café, graces the powder room. The home also includes a ski-wax-room, bike and scullery storage and a sauna. Natural materials such as white oak cabinets and flooring, cypress ceilings and a fireplace wall wrapped in bluestone generate warmth and connection to the outdoors. The collaborative, adventurous design process has resulted in a friendship between Ruth, her husband and the client, enlivened by shared music tastes.
